Renovation of the tower began in 2021, and we were able to complete it by the end of 2024.
The renovation included all copper work on the tower, as well as copper dormers and a new slate roof on Frederiksberggade 2 in Copenhagen.
Scope of the project:
Much of the work on this renovation began in our workshop.
All parts of the old tower were dismantled and used as the basis for the molds needed to create the new components.
It was decided that the renovation should be visible to future generations, which is why both the original date plaque, and the new date plaque have been mounted on the tower.
The five “copper children,” the dragons they sit on, and the garlands they hold—all original elements from the old tower—were sandblasted. The same applies to the decorations above the date plaques.
You can follow the work and the process up close, as we continuously produced and uploaded videos throughout the project.
Technical and Environmental Perspective:
In this renovation, we also set high standards for the underlying wooden structure to ensure that the copper will remain secure for the next 100 years. Every existing board was carefully inspected one by one to identify and reuse those that met the necessary quality standards.
The top of the tower, which you can see in our workshop, has retained its original wooden framework but has been fitted with new boards. The underlying tower structure is a well-balanced mix of existing and new boards.
