40 years with CVR number.
Owner Brian Toft will celebrate 40 years as an independent contractor in October 2026 – and of course it should be celebrated.
Throughout the year we share articles, provide ongoing reviews and revisit the references that have been carried out since 1986.
You can now find them at the bottom of the page here.
Finished elementary school - and then what?
When Brian was 16 years old and had finished elementary school, he wanted to go to high school and go straight to becoming a lawyer or architect. But that didn’t happen, because Brian wasn’t of age when that decision had to be made, so it was Brian’s father who decided that Brian should go into the trades.
Very conveniently, his father was able to offer him an apprenticeship in his plumbing company as an apprentice plumber. We’ll share more of that story – because it’s so opposite to how the approach to trades is today.
Names and company constellations over the last 40 years.
For the past many years we have been known as Toft Kobber.
But that’s not how it started in the 80s, when Brian started as an independent craftsman at the age of 21. The company at that time was called Toft VVS and was located at Bregnegade 8, Copenhagen North. It subsequently became Rørbæk VVS until 2014, when it became Toft Kobber by Brian Toft and in 2022 it became Toft Kobber A/S.
Further education in copper could not be taken in Denmark.
Brian had to apply to Germany several times to learn the trade back in the early 90s. Much of the knowledge, techniques learned and his own experiences have been written down in the Copper Book.
It is Brian’s contribution to and assurance that the copper trade can continue for many generations to come.
You can read that story here.
The employees have also celebrated anniversaries several times.
The copper trade is a narrow niche when we talk about the old method of working with the material. There are not many people nationwide who know the craft, but we have been lucky to be able to keep some of the most talented people in the country.
In 2022, several of the employees were able to celebrate one 25th anniversary and 4 10th anniversary, respectively.
So in 2027, the same people will be celebrated – and several more here in 2026.
The number of employees has been fairly stable over the years.
Several of the employees have started apprenticeships here and have either continued in the company or have applied for further employment.
In connection with our company change from Brian’s personally owned company to A/S at the turn of the year in 2023, we made a strategic move.
A move that was supposed to ensure that we could train more people for the copper industry, both apprentices and trained plumbers, who would represent the generations in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s – now that the management and a few of the seasoned hands are both in their 60s and 70s.
After the fire at Børsen in April 2023, more employees were added, both plumbers and 5 carpenters, who, among other things, will carry out the wooden base on our renovations.
